Landscape Architect Brown To Receive 2017 Green Spirit Award At Parkway Partners’ Annual “Feast” Fundraiser

NEW ORLEANS – As Parkway Partners launches its strategic re-envisioning year, its annual jazz brunch fundraiser, The Feast, will return Sunday, Oct. 8, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., to the venue that held the beloved event in its inaugural year more than 30 years ago: The New Orleans Board of Trade, 316 Magazine St.

The Parkway Partners Board selected landscape architect and planner Dana Nunez Brown to receive its 2017 Green Spirit Award because of her tireless work informing professionals and citizens about low-impact development, storm water management and smart growth, reps said.

Past recipients of the Green Spirit Award include Margaret Orr, former New Orleans City Councilmember Jackie Clarkson, Michael Karam, Jared Zeller and, in 2016, Dr. Bob Thomas.

Parkway Partners founder Flo Schornstein was the original award winner.

"A born advocate, Dana Nunez Brown is among a group of professionals who raised the public conscience post-Katrina about the importance of storm water management, as well as its positive impact on urban growth and greenspace preservation and enhancement," said Jim Lestelle, Parkway Partners Board president.

During her 34 years of experience as a landscape architect and planner, Brown has worked for firms in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Boston and Orange County, California. She also has worked for EDAW, Inc., and Parsons Brinckerhoff, Inc., in California before returning to Louisiana and settling in New Orleans, where she now serves as president and principal of Dana Brown & Associates, Inc.

Brown’s work in Louisiana has focused on community planning, ecological design and public outreach along with leading various Louisiana projects.

The Feast is the organization’s annual fundraising event held every October. With the support of local businesses, corporations and friends of Parkway Partners, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised to support tree planting and greenspace education in New Orleans, reps said.

“Parkway Partners works closely with the city, but we receive no funding from its budget,” said founder Flo Schornstein. “Just as we rely on volunteers like Dana to support our work, we depend on our annual Feast to help finance our efforts.”

For more than 25 years, The Feast has attracted hundreds of fans who enjoy live jazz while dining on outstanding cuisine and specialty drinks. This year, Feast catering will be provided by Pigéon Catering. The menu will not disappoint, nor will the Bloody Mary bar, nor the signature cocktail, reps said.

Guests will be entertained by the lively tunes of the Messy Cookers Jazz Band, surprise guest appearances and an interactive silent auction experience.
