Event Postponements Announced Due To Tropical Storm Nate

NEW ORLEANS – The following events have been postponed due to Tropical Storm Nate:

• With the support of New Orleans City Park and a host of food vendors, the second annual Beignet Fest will move to Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10:00 a.m. -6:00 p.m. After the Mayor’s office released updates urging citizens to stay home this weekend due to a severe weather advisory, the festival’s organizers decided to move the event out of an abundance of caution. They are also conscious of the increased strain on the police and fire departments that will now be focused on 24-hour hurricane preparation.

“We strongly believe that the public’s safety, and the safety of our law enforcement officers, must remain a top priority,” said Beignet Fest founder and event producer Sherwood Collins. “We urge everyone to follow the instructions from the Mayor’s office and stay home this weekend out of an abundance of caution, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the festival at City Park on Dec. 2.”

The American Athletic Conference says the start of Tulsa's game at Tulane has been moved up four hours because of tropical weather forecast to hit the Gulf Coast on Sunday morning.

The game Saturday initially was scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Central time, and now is set for 11:00 a.m.

The league says the move has been made because of the projected track of Tropical Storm Nate, which on Thursday was over Central America and could become a hurricane as it moves north into the Gulf of Mexico.

Forecasts project the storm making landfall in the United States somewhere between the central Louisiana coast and western Alabama near Mobile.
