City’s Dept. Of Public Works, Sewerage & Water Board To Present On City’s $2.4B Capital Improvement Program

Cedric Grant, Executive Director of the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Oct. 24, the Executive Director of the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans, Cedric Grant, and Director of Public Works, Mark Jernigan, will present an overview of the City’s Capital Improvement Program to the New Orleans City Council Public Works, Sanitation & Environment Committee, at New Orleans City Hall’s City Council Chambers at 1:30 p.m.

The City and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans are working together to implement an unprecedented program to restore the City’s damaged infrastructure, City reps said. Using a combination of local and Federal funds, the $2.4B program will be the most comprehensive that the region has seen in a generation, City reps said. Work will include more than 200 individual projects and consist of repairing all or portions of about 400 miles of roadway that City reps said will create thousands of jobs across the city. There will be several types of construction: Full Depth Reconstruction; Patch, Mill and Overlay; Patch Concrete; Incidental Road Repairs; Bridges; Non-Paving Incidentals; and Streetscapes.

To keep residents better informed of this historic infrastructure improvement program, the City has launched a revamped www.roadwork.nola.gov online tool, allowing residents to search by their address to get block-by-block details on planned, active and completed infrastructure improvements across the city.

District C Councilmember Nadine Ramsey said “As the chair of the Public Works, Sanitation & Environment Committee, I am committed to working with the administration to help ensure the safety of our streets. The beginning of the Capital Improvement Program is a significant milestone for our city and I encourage our residents to actively learn about the projects that will soon be under way.”
