John Breaux On The Road With Sen. Mary Landrieu

BATON ROUGE (AP) — He's been out of office for nearly a decade, but former U.S. Sen. John Breaux is back on the campaign trail, urging voters to support his one-time colleague, Democrat Mary Landrieu.

Breaux, a Crowley native and now a Washington lobbyist, was traveling Friday to get-out-the-vote events around Acadiana with Landrieu.

Landrieu has described herself as a senator like Breaux, a moderate who worked across party lines and championed the oil and gas industry.

Seeking a fourth term, Landrieu is locked in one of her toughest re-election battles, with two main GOP challengers: U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy and tea party favorite Rob Maness. She's targeted by Republicans nationally driving to regain Senate control.

The election is Tuesday, but the Senate race isn't expected to be decided until a Dec. 6 runoff.
