NEW ORLEANS - On Friday, Nov. 30, the Associated Press reported that a "security breach inside Marriott's worldwide hotel empire has compromised the information of as many as 500 million guests, exposing in some cases credit card numbers, passport numbers and birth dates." The breach also revealed the contact information of most guests.

According to the report, it's possibly the "largest data breach on record."

GlobeNet, a New Orleans-based boutique Managed Services Provider, will host a “Cyber Security and Your Business” luncheon tomorrow - Tuesday, Dec. 4, to discuss this pressing issue. The free luncheon takes place from noon to 2 p.m., in the New Orleans at Vintage Rock Club (1007 Poydras).

Registration for the event, which is sponsored by SonicWall, is available on globenetllc.com. You can also call (504) 227-3001.

“The recent Marriott data breach is one of so many instances across the world where private information from both businesses, public entities and individuals is compromised," said Kevin B. Gray, the founder & CEO of GlobeNet. "Our Cyber Security luncheon on December 4th is an opportunity to help local businesses better understand the current cyber security threat landscape and various ways to protect their business from growing cyber threats.”

Since 2010, GlobeNet has offered IT services based on security as a service (SaaS), cloud, disaster recovery, and VDI, among others. They help their clients build holistic IT strategies, and apply learning from research, analytics, customer feedback, and industry performance to optimize clients' results and needs.

The guest speakers for the “Cyber Security and Your Business” luncheon are Gray; Noah Hardie, the first vice president of Alliant Americas; and Tushar Dua, an account executive at SonicWall.
