Familiarization Tour
On Oct. 8 the Monsanto Corporate Engagement Team joined the Port of New Orleans for an educational presentation and tour. Coordinated with a visit to their plant in Luling, Louisiana, they aimed to familiarize themselves with the Louisiana area and shipping process.

National Coffee Day
On Sept. 28 Chad Pitre, Master Green Coffee Flavorist at Folgers, presented to students at Robert Moten Elementary School in New Orleans in celebration of National Coffee Day. The presentation was a collaborative effort that included the Port of New Orleans and the Traffic and Transportation Club of Greater New Orleans.

Truck Driver Appreciation
During the week of Sept. 14, the Port of New Orleans participated in a national week of appreciation to thank truck drivers and highlight the critical role they play. Special signage was created along the Clarence Henry Truckway, the Port’s dedicated roadway, and drivers received giveaways, donuts and lunch served by Port staff.

Port Night Memphis
On Oct. 8, at the historic Peabody Hotel, the annual Port Night Memphis celebrated the decades-long relationship between the Port of New Orleans and Memphis World Trade Center. Following the Journal of Commerce Inland Distribution Conference, Port Night highlights the connections along the Mississippi River. William Bergeron, Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans, served as the keynote speaker.

Port Night Chicago
The Port of New Orleans hosted Port Night Chicago at Wrigley Field on Aug. 11. The annual customer appreciation event saw the Cubs face off with the Milwaukee Brewers for a 6-3 win. Katrina Commemorations
On Aug. 25 the Port of New Orleans recognized the courage and exemplary service of the Harbor Police and the Fireboat General Roy S. Kelley crew during and after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In a service held in observance of the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Port’s first responders were honored with special medals and a plaque inscribed with their names that will hang in HPD headquarters.
At the regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans Aug. 27, the Board approved a resolution commemorating the recovery efforts of the Port staff in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Staff and HPD were given engraved medals in recognition of their service and thanked at a luncheon that followed the meeting.

Highlighting Workforce Needs
The second annual Port of New Orleans Maritime Workforce Summit & Career Expo, presented by WWL-TV’s “We Choose Louisiana,” fostered discussions with job creators on how to develop a highly skilled local workforce for the future. Held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, more than 500 people attended the discussions and job fair. The Port would like to thank the event sponsors: Associated Terminals, Big River Coalition, GIOBYTE Innovative Advertising, International Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers Association of New Orleans, Louisiana Maritime International Chamber of Commerce, Mississippi Valley Trade and Transport Council, River Heritage Foundation and Turn Services.
