Bridge House/ Grace House 22nd Annual Women Of Substance Luncheon To Honor Local Female Role Models

NEW ORLEANS – During its 60th anniversary in 2017, Bridge House/Grace House will host its 22nd Annual Women of Substance Luncheon to honor local female role models for the many women served by its substance abuse treatment program.

The “Inspiring Grace Through Mind, Body, And Spirit” event takes place Friday, May 12, at the Audubon Tea Room, 6500 Magazine St. The 11:00 a.m. silent auction will be followed by a 12:30 p.m. lunch and program.

2017 Honorees include: Molly Kimball, founder of Eat Fit NOLA and WGNO-TV’s nutrition and fitness expert; Parker Sternbergh, assistant director Porter Cason Institute at Tulane University; and Veronica Winget, current Albert Schweitzer Fellow working with chronic pain management at Grace House.

Bridge House/Grace House is dedicated to helping men and women lead sober and productive lives through gender specific treatment, reps said. These services are offered regardless of one’s ability to pay.

Forty-nine percent of those that seek treatment through Bridge House/Grace House are addicted to heroin, and opiates were discovered in 166 drug-related deaths throughout New Orleans in 2016, a doubling as compared to 81 deaths in 2015, reps said. The heroin and opioid crisis proliferates crime and exacerbates the need for public support of our addicted population, they said.
