Barpreneurs is Back at SoBou

NEW ORLEANS - This afternoon, SoBou launched their spring Barpreneurs Power Lunch series with a presentation from Kristen Preau Moore, the CEO of Jambalaya Girl.
The low-key networking events take place at noon on select Fridays and welcome aspiring entrepreneurs seeking feedback on their business idea.
Future guest speakers include: Robert Lalka, executive director of the Albert Lepage Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (March 22); Kyle Huling, co-founder and vice president of Urban South Brewery (March 29); Victoria Adams Phipps, NOLABA vice president of programs and executive director of 504ward (April 5); and Megan Forman, co-owner and executive chef of Gracious Bakery (May 10).
“Barpreneurs was started post-Katrina, when there was a big entrepreneur movement in New Orleans,” said Sam Cusimano, the communications director of SoBou.
“The vibe is very casual and fun. Most speakers do not stand up – they simply enjoy lunch with everyone while speaking,” she said. “It’s a nice way for everyone to get know each other.”
SoBou's lunch menu features andouille sausage and apple beignets, smoked brisket po'boys, duck leg confit, and crispy oyster tacos, among other delights created by chef Tory McPhail.
Cusimano noted that the luncheon organizers typically choose speakers from various backgrounds who have launched their own company, or work at organizations that assist startups.
“New Orleans is full of successful people who are willing to give their time and energy to mentor others – we’re so lucky that way,” said Cusimano. “We get lots of recommendations from our past speakers who want others to benefit from the mentors and leaders they have benefitted from. And with organizations like The Idea Village and programs like Loyola’s Center for Entrepreneurship, we feel like we have an ongoing supply of sharp, savvy entrepreneurs willing to share the love.”
