Audubon Zoo Hosts Earth Fest Presented By Entergy

NEW ORLEANS – In addition to fun-filled lessons on how to help save the environment, Earth Fest Presented by Entergy at Audubon Zoo on Saturday, March 24 will offer an added treat: a performance by Louisiana’s newest Grammy Award winner, The Lost Bayou Ramblers.

Winners of the Best Regional Music Album Grammy for “Kalenda,’’ south Lousiana’s Lost Bayou Ramblers have been entertaining fans with their old-style, Cajun performances at clubs and festivals across the world for nearly two decades.

The band’s performance will highlight a day of environmentally friendly outdoor activities.

“Entergy is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of New Orleanians in many ways, including protecting our natural resources,’’ said Charles Rice, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans, LLC. “That is why we are proud to sponsor Earth Fest at Audubon Zoo, an annual event that offers a fun way for families to get outside together and learn more and celebrate the natural wonders of the planet we all share.’’

This year, Earth Fest will feature a “Jeans for Giraffes” conservation initiative providing guests an opportunity to win a “Meet and Greet’’ with Audubon’s giraffe herd at the Freeport-McMoRan Audubon Species Survival Center located on the West Bank in Lower Coast Algiers.

The Green Project also will sponsor a paint recycling program during Earth Fest. To learn more about the recycling program, click here.

A new addition to Earth Fest this year is an appearance by Krewe des Fleurs, a New Orleans-based costume collaborative dedicated to a more sustainable Carnival culture.

With the help of a professional designer, krewe members build unique costumes and craft upcycled throws, including keepsakes and seed-beads, thanks to donations from generous partners.

Earth Fest visitors also can be among the first to visit Audubon Zoo’s expanded Jaguar Jungle that has added Maya artifacts, a new play area, education and cultural presentations and new animals. The highlight of the expansion is a new nocturnal house where more than 200 Seba’s short-tailed bats will fill a transparent flyway.

Exhibitors representing non-profits, government agencies and businesses involved with environmental issues will be on hand throughout the day to assist with answering questions for prizes in the Earth Quest game.

Food from local vendors will be available for purchase.

Earth Fest Presented by Entergy is included with Audubon Nature Institute membership or Zoo admission. No outside food, beverage or tents will be allowed in Audubon Zoo during Earth Fest.
