Tricentennial Bike Tour Celebrates Crescent City Cruising, Culture, Creole Cuisine
Fill up your tires, climb on your bike and throw on your bib (shorts), because the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation (NOTMC) has teamed up with Bon Appétit Magazine and Confederacy of Cruisers Bike Tours to offer a cycling adventure celebrating 300 years of New Orleans Creole cuisine and culture.
From Thursday, Oct. 19 through Sunday, Oct. 22, culinary commuters will pace themselves as they spin through four restaurants to enjoy four Epicurean experiences from 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Mark Romig, NOTMC president and CEO said, “For 300 years, New Orleans has been a city built on great stories. As we go into our tricentennial year, we can't wait to welcome even more visitors to our city to experience our food, music and rich culture, so that they too can leave with their own New Orleans story.”
Bon Appétit thinks those stories have a definite foodie spin, and the award-winning No. 1 food lifestyle brand partnered with Confederacy of Cruisers so that peddlers will get pumped getting a handle on the city via a “Bike One Time in NOLA” bicycle tour to explore the rich flavor of the city’s history.
A pack of 10 (each tour’s capacity) first steps on the brakes at Compère Lapin in The Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery, 535 Tchoupitoulas St. In the heart of the Warehouse Arts District, Chef Nina Compton, Food & Wine’s “Best New Chef 2017,” mixes indigenous ingredients with those of her Caribbean roots.
Shifting gears, bikers steer toward Cochon Butcher, 930 Tchoupitoulas St., to enjoy a bounty of boudin prepared by Chef Donald Link.
Hopping off the saddle at last stop Arnaud’s, 813 Bienville St., participants can cool their heels at the French 75 Bar, named one of the top five bars in the country by Esquire Magazine. Arnaud’s won the 2017 James Beard Award for Outstanding Bar Program.
This off-the-chain event is priced at $99 per person and includes all four stops along the Bon Appétit-curated bike trail.
Tours are limited to 10 riders per tour.
NOTMC, the city’s official leisure travel promotion agency, is a private economic development corporation created under Louisiana State Law to foster jobs and economic growth by developing the tourism industry in New Orleans.
