Sci High Approved To Build New $35M Facility

NEW ORLEANS – The Orleans Parish School Board voted unanimously to build a new $35 million facility for New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School, “Sci High” at 2011 Bienville St. The new Sci High campus is projected to be completed within three years.

Sci High’s permanent new home will be built at the present Wicker Elementary School site, which will be demolished. Wicker Elementary School is presently occupied by Success Prep, which will be moving to another location.  Sci High is currently located at 5625 Loyola Ave. in Uptown New Orleans.

At the OPSB Board meeting, rising senior Rodjonae Sutton delivered the pledge of allegiance and spoke on behalf of all Sci High students. Sci High parent Glenda Larsen also spoke about her appreciation of the school team. Principal Clair Jecklin addressed the longevity and commitment of Sci High’s parents, students, School Board members, Superintendent, governing and fundraising boards and community.

“We are so excited and eager to build this new state-of-the-art campus,” said Sci High Principal Jecklin.  “This has been a long time coming and we are so thrilled and thankful for the opportunities this location gives us with prospective partners and resources in the biomedical, health and science fields.”

Sci High’s new location is one block from the new Lafitte Greenway, two blocks away from the new state hospitals and approximately one mile from university schools of medicine, public health and nursing.

Sci High will align the design of the new building with its curriculum and the new facility will include six specialty labs for hands-on work in biomedical, health, and lab sciences, engineering, and skilled crafts. The campus will be ADA accessible. There are also plans to house an LSU school-based clinic in the future.
