UnitedHealthcare Donates Hasbro’s Nerf Energy Game Kits To Boys & Girls Clubs Of Southeast Louisiana

GRETNA, LA – One-hundred members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Louisiana will receive Nerf Energy Game Kits from UnitedHealthcare Thursday, July 20, at the Westbank club, 900 Tenth St., in Gretna, at 10:30 a.m.

         Each kit includes a Nerf Energy Game Band, a Nerf Pro Foam soccer ball and instructions to download the Nerf Energy Rush mobile game to get kids moving. Elementary-age club members (six to 12-years-old) will demonstrate how the kits work with the help of UnitedHealthcare mascot Dr. Health E. Hound, who will lead the group through exercises and relays.

         The donation is part of a recently launched national initiative that encourages young people to become more active through “exergaming.” Throughout 2017, UnitedHealthcare will donate 10,000 Nerf Energy Game Kits to schools and community organizations at no cost.

         Scheduled to attend the event are Rep. Joseph A. Marino, III – (I) District 85, Christine O’Brien of UnitedHealthcare, UnitedHealthcare mascot Dr. Health E. Hound and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Louisiana members.

         Approximately 17 percent of children and adolescents ages two to 19 are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Louisiana, nearly 40 percent of children are considered obese.

         UnitedHealthcare reps said the Nerf Energy Game Kits are designed to encourage physical activity, exergaming, among children in a fun and playful way where they earn “energy point” rewards. As children participate in physical activity, that are tracked by the activity band, and these points turn into screen time to play the mobile game on a smartphone or tablet.
