Louisiana Credit Unions Assist Federal Workers During Government Shutdown
NEW ORLEANS – To relieve financial tension for furloughed workers and their families during the government shutdown, credit unions across the state are providing specialized services and accommodations.
Details were shared in a press release.
“The credit union mission is to not only provide a transactional experience for our members, but to work hand-in-hand with them to meet their financial needs and goals,” said Bob Gallman, president and CEO of the Louisiana Credit Union League. “The government shutdown is creating many burdens for furloughed workers, especially financially, which is why credit unions across the state are stepping up to help.”
Accommodations include furlough loan programs, refinancing options, payment extensions, personalized credit counseling, waiving of penalties acquired during the furlough period and other specific programs targeted toward assisting credit union members in need.
While many credit unions statewide have programs in place, the following have reported ways in which they are assisting individuals impacted by the shutdown:
Naval Air Station JRB Credit Union
Greater New Orleans (GNO) Federal Credit Union
Coast Guard Employees Credit Union
University of New Orleans Federal Credit Union
Pelican State Credit Union
La Capitol Federal Credit Union
Department of Corrections Credit Union
Campus Federal Credit Union
Section 705 Federal Credit Union
Acadian Federal Credit Union
Heart of Louisiana Federal Credit Union
Alexandria Municipal Employees Credit Union
Barksdale Federal Credit Union
“Louisiana credit unions are committed to keeping furloughed workers updated throughout the shutdown,” said Gallman. “We encourage those affected to reach out directly to their local credit unions to learn more about the specific financial resources available to them.”
