In 2016, the City invested $1,773,000 into the local non-profit community. With this funding, grant recipients have been able to expand opportunities and create additional programming for the communities they serve, City reps said.

With an emphasis on youth development and empowerment, Wisner grants to 16 organizations sought to increase the reach of youth-focused organizations across New Orleans to provide opportunities for young people in New Orleans to serve meals, receive ACT prep and academic support and afterschool programming. Through the work of the Beautiful Foundation, more than 2,500 girls have participated in workshops to increase their self-esteem, positivity of their own self-image and their ability to communicate with peers. With the assistance of Wisner funding, 10 organization provided summer camp or afterschool support activities for over 3,000 New Orleans youth.

Through Wisner Donation Grants to seven organizations, the Mayor’s Office invested in neighborhood revitalization and green infrastructure to beautify and increase resiliency in New Orleans’ communities. Highlighted grants include HandsOn New Orleans, Lowernine.org and Global Green USA, which put 11,000 out-of-state youth volunteers to work rebuilding homes across New Orleans including 30 homes in the Lower 9th Ward, and allowed for the construction of a Community Development Climate Action Center in partnership with the Department of Energy.

To improve the future for all children, Wisner Donations to 10 organizations are serving more than 2,500 kids in local learning institutions through afterschool tutoring in literacy and math, training young adults to become self- sufficient and productive members of the New Orleans workforce, and recruiting families to improve student achievement.

Tia Robertson, executive director of Love Impact, said, “Love Impact is grateful for the City’s investment. Because of this funding and support, we have been able to expand our summer programs, create year-round services for the city’s youth and influence the lives of more children than ever before. We are thankful for the City’s partnership and believing in our work.”

“Our Wisner Grant recipients are impacting the lives of real people,” said Mayor Landrieu. “We will continue to ensure that these investments strengthen their organizations and help us to build the best New Orleans.”
