NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The number of Louisiana residents enrolling for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act continues to grow.
The number of residents who got health coverage through the federal insurance marketplace has climbed to 198,511. That's about 12,000 more than last year's total.
The New Orleans Advocate reports the final deadline for individuals to enroll in ACA is Jan. 31. Consumers who don't have coverage face a penalty of $695, or 2 percent of their annual income.
As of Jan. 23, 81,849 consumers in the New Orleans area either selected a plan or were automatically enrolled in one. In the Baton Rouge market, the total was 42,225, and in Lafayette, 24,803.
