While NDRC funds were only received by the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans, the application process catalyzed extraordinary momentum and advanced planning around resiliency initiatives in Jefferson and St. Tammany Parishes.  GNO, Inc. especially commends the thorough consideration each of these parishes put towards their applications and looks forward to continuing to work with both Jefferson and St. Tammany Parishes on ongoing resiliency initiatives.

Moving forward, all NDRC applicants and other parishes across the region will coordinate via the New Orleans Regional Planning Commission’s Resiliency Subcommittee.  Additionally, St. Tammany and Jefferson Parishes are committed to advancing the following:

• Jefferson Parish:  Will continue advancing innovative water management practices across the Parish.  Specifically, the Metairie Bayou Park is providing a new water management pilot for the Parish.  Additionally, the parking lot of the Yenni Building in Elmwood is undergoing a design process to incorporate water management elements.

• St. Tammany Parish: Will continue the implementation of a replicable, green infrastructure program that addresses environmental degradation, coastal land loss, storm water management, and water quality.  Further, St. Tammany Parish Government is currently in the process of revising development standards to incorporate resilience, including climate change, coastal land loss, water quality, storm water management, sudden population increases, and the ordinary and extraordinary shocks and stressors to the community.

Additionally, all NDRC applicants locally and nationally will have an opportunity to continue learning more about innovative international, national and local resilience models at the upcoming RES/CON New Orleans conference which will highlight the NDRC process and projects.

“Resiliency doesn’t end with a grant process: it is an ongoing paradigm shift across a number of spheres, including the private sector," said Michael Hecht, President and CEO of GNO, Inc. GNO, Inc. looks forward to continuing advancing resiliency in the region to not only create a more sustainable physical environment for business, but also to foster a new industry sector—Environmental Management—that is ready to profitably engage in these new challenges.”

“In addition to the potential business and workforce opportunity these significant infrastructure investments will generate, GNO, Inc. is also excited to see a significant advancement of Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan Principles and demonstration projects,” said Robin Barnes, Executive Vice President and COO of GNO, Inc. “GNO, Inc. created the Plan for this very purpose: to catalyze new innovation and momentum in the water management sector.”
