Employee-Funded Cox Charities Grants Awarded to Five Local Non-Profits

LOUISIANA – Cox Communications recently awarded $15,500 to local nonprofits in the New Orleans area through Cox Charities Community Investment program, which is funded by employees. The company received 38 applications from local nonprofits in this now-third year grant cycle, accepting proposals from August 21 to September 28, 2018. Details were shared in a press release.

Branded under the theme “Give Where You Live,” the unique, employee-giving campaign launched in 2016 in Cox’s Southeast Region, which includes: Acadiana, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Florida’s Gulf Coast, Central Florida and Middle Georgia. Dollars raised in each market stay in the market in which they were generated via payroll deduction. Funds raised by local, New Orleans employees benefit programs in Cox-serviceable areas within Orleans, Jefferson, St. Charles, and St. Bernard parishes.

In New Orleans, Cox Charities Advisory Council members chose the following organizations’ respective programs as recipients of this year’s Community Investment fund:

- Sponsors -
  • Angels’ Place – Respite Care
  • Grace at the Green Light – Going Home
  • Luke’s House: A Clinic for Healing and Hope – Prescription Assistance
  • Odyssey House Louisiana Inc. – Client Comfort Fund
  • Murphy Education & Sports Foundation – Annual Back to School Giveaway

“Not only is every dollar of the Cox Charities grants generated directly from the paychecks of generous, caring Cox employees, but a local team of employees reads through every application and determines how the dollars will be best invested to impact positive change in the communities we serve,” said Kevin Monroe, market vice president for Cox New Orleans.

Cox Charities was created to strengthen Cox communities by supporting programs in the areas of education, technology, social issues, conservation and the arts. Funds are distributed in the form of Community Investment grants and Innovation in Education grants. Cox Charities does not replace the company’s regular giving and sponsorships; rather, it’s designed to supplement philanthropy efforts and involve employees in the decision-making process.

Community Investment grants, accepted in mid-August, are designed to assist 501(c)(3) organizations with programs that benefit the Cox Communications service areas. Innovation in Education grants, which are accepted around mid-March, are designed to support classroom, school-wide, or collaborative educational programs, in any subject area, to promote pre-K-12th grade students’ ingenuity and imagination.
