City’s 1st Responders Support Flooding Recovery Efforts Across LA

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP), the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD), the New Orleans Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and the Sewerage and Water Board (SWB) are continuing to support the flooding recovery efforts across the state.

         “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the severe flooding across Louisiana,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “Our NOLA first responders will continue to provide resources and support in any way that we can.”

         NOHSEP reps said they are in constant communication with emergency management officials from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, as well as with impacted parishes to respond quickly to requests for resources.

         On Saturday, August 13, two air boat operators and two trained SWB personnel were deployed to St. Helena Parish. They continued to work with parish officials on Sunday, August 14, on search and rescue missions.

         Also on Sunday, the NOFD led a contingent of nine boats and 18 swift water rescue personnel and command staff to the Baton Rouge area to aide in search and rescue missions.

         New Orleans EMS deployed six personnel to the East Baton Rouge area Sunday morning to assist with an evacuation and transfer of patients from Ochsner Hospital to other Baton Rouge area hospitals.
