City Of New Orleans To Unveil First-Ever Comprehensive Resilience Strategy

Mayor Mitch Landrieu

NEW ORLEANS  – For almost three centuries, New Orleans has faced many challenges. Today, there are new challenges that confront the region – climate change and rising sea levels, land subsidence and coastal erosion, and lack of equity and opportunity for all New Orleanians to grow and thrive. As part of 100 Resilient Cities, powered by The Rockefeller Foundation, the City of New Orleans will release its first ever Resilience Strategy with an aim of becoming a global leader in urban resilience.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ashe PowerHouse Theater, 1731 Baronne St., Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administrator Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, The Rockefeller Foundation President Dr. Judith Rodin, 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) President Michael Berkowitz, New Orleans Chief Resilience Officer Jeff Hebert and Ashe Theater Co-founder & Executive Director Carol Bebelle will unveil the “K10 Resilient New Orleans Strategy,” to build a “more equitable, adaptable and prosperous,” city.

More than 110 New Orleanians representing every segment of the City worked over a 9-month time frame to develop the strategy with actions they say will shape the future of New Orleans.
