Bienville Basin To Open At Former Iberville Housing Development Site

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will be joined by HUD Secretary Julián Castro along with federal, state and local officials to celebrate the grand opening of Bienville Basin community at the former Iberville Housing Development, at the intersection of Iberville and Treme Streets at 2:00 p.m.

The redevelopment of the Iberville community is a unique collaboration of Federal, state and local government coming together to transform one of New Orleans’ largest communities. In 2011, HUD announced that the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) and the City of New Orleans received a $30.5 million grant through the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) to redevelop the distressed housing at the former Iberville Housing Development and revitalize the Treme neighborhood.

Redevelopment of the Iberville Housing Development began in 2013.
