NEW ORLEANS — Loyola University New Orleans Fr. Joseph A. Butt, S.J. College of Business celebrates young alumni and a celebrated industry leader at its upcoming 34th annual alumni luncheon.

At the annual luncheon, Loyola business alumnus Alvin A. Baumer, Jr. ’75, president and CEO of Baumer Foods, Inc., the world-famous supplier of Crystal Hot Sauce, will be presented the Alden “Doc” Laborde Award for Ethical Entrepreneurship. The award honors unselfish service and principled business practices.

The award states in part, “For some time now, the forgotten hero of U.S. business has been the entrepreneur. Every place of business, from the humblest storefront to the gleaming corporate campus, is testament to the existence of an entrepreneur’s vision. The motivation for entrepreneurship is not wealth but the desire to respond to human need and cultural challenges. We at Loyola believe that successful entrepreneurs sustain their organizations by creating workplaces based on values and ethics as a way of doing business.”

Four brothers will receive the Young Alumni of the Year Award. Fernando Rivera ’04, Osmin Rivera ’05, Jorge Rivera ’07, and Ricardo Rivera ’11 all graduated from the College of Business Administration with bachelor’s degrees in finance. The brothers have fond memories of their time at Loyola and agree that their studies at Loyola helped to prepare them for their careers, both through their coursework in the College of Business and the Jesuit values they incorporate into their daily lives.

“Through his service to industry, to Loyola, and to the region, Alvin Baumer, Jr. has served as an important role model to Loyola business students and alumni throughout the nation. Through his work, philanthropy, and community engagement, he has exemplified a commitment to excellence and the Loyola and Jesuit motto ‘men and women for and with others,’” said the Rev. Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., university president.

“Since their days at Loyola, the Rivera brothers have demonstrated values of scholarship and service, as well as a devotion to faith and family.  Through their continued relationship with Loyola, they continue to give back and inspire a new generation of students and young alumni,” Wildes said.

Warner L. Thomas, president and CEO of Ochsner Health System will give the keynote address. Barry and Theresa LeBlanc Professor of Business Ethics Kendra Reed, Ph.D. will give a state of the college update.

The annual College of Business Alumni Luncheon will be held Friday, May 4, 2018 at the J.W. Marriott Hotel, 614 Canal St., New Orleans. Cost of admission is $50. A reception and cash bar begin at 11 a.m. The luncheon program begins at noon. Tickets can be purchased online at alumni.loyno.edu/luncheon.
