Parade Of Homes To Showcase 25 New Homes In Greater New Orleans Area Neighborhoods
NEW ORLEANS – The annual Parade of Homes, presented by the Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans (HBAGNO) is the region’s opportunity to tour new homes and see the latest in building techniques and industry trends.
The Parade of Homes runs June 3-4 and June 10-11, from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The parade is ideal for millennials searching for a first home in a centrally located, walkable neighborhood, organizers said. It is also great for inspiring ideas for those hoping to renovate an existing home, such as boomers who are planning to remain in their homes and “age in place.”
This year’s free event takes place at newly built residences in Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes.
The 2017 Parade of Homes features 25 homes, to date:
• Seven homes in St. Bernard Parish (six in “The Heights” in Arabi; one in Chalmette)
• Five homes on The Westbank (two in Gretna; two in Belle Chasse; one in English Turn)
• Three homes in Gentilly (one in Oak Park; two in St. John Trace)
• Three homes in Lakeview, including the 2017 St. Jude Dream Home®
• Three homes in Kenner
• Two homes in Metairie
• One home in Uptown New Orleans
• One home in a new New Orleans neighborhood, The Oaks
The Parade of Homes offers homes in popular communities throughout the metro area, such as The Parks of Plaquemines and Springwood Estates in Belle Chasse; Gabriel and Louisiana Trace in Kenner; Oak Park, St. John Trace, The Oaks, Uptown, Lakeview, and English Turn in New Orleans; Garden Park Estates and Terrytown in Gretna; and Metairie and Old Metairie. These planned subdivisions, some of which are gated communities, remain popular with families looking to build their very own dream home, organizers said.
While the market remains competitive in the city, opportunities are available in neighborhoods like St. Bernard Parish’s “The Heights” in Arabi, which features six homes in this year’s parade. These types of neighborhoods are attracting potential homebuyers who seek more living space for growing families, boasting large outdoor spaces. Most importantly, homes with these amenities are just minutes from the heart of New Orleans.
“The local housing market continues to see increased demand for new homes, especially in newly-discovered areas of the Westbank, pockets of Orleans Parish like Gentilly and Mid-City, and in outlying parishes like Plaquemines and St. Bernard,” said Jon Luther, CEO of the Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans. “More so than in previous years, this year’s Parade of Homes offers a wider variety of affordable homes in neighborhoods that reflect the diverse tastes of potential homebuyers in our community.”
Attendees to this year’s Parade of Homes will see newly-built, energy-efficient homes featuring the latest design trends, including smart homes, NanaWalls that lead to a better blending of the inside and outside, quartz countertops, home theaters, outdoor kitchens, shiplap, subway tiles, and more. Visitors can also get ideas for renovating an existing home and get expert advice from the area’s trusted builders.
Included in the 2017 Parade of Homes is the St. Jude Dream Home®, a four-bedroom, three-bath house located at 6632 Pontchartrain Blvd. in Lakeview, which is being raffled off to support St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Built by Hyman L. Bartolo Jr. Contractors, Inc., and valued at approximately $575,000, tickets for the raffle can be purchased for only $100 and are available by calling (800) 327-2559 or online here.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the communities it serves, the 2017 Parade of Homes plans to donate funds and time to NOEL/Jefferson Joining Forces, a non-profit organization dedicated to collaborating with the Jefferson Parish Office of Community Development to help repair code violations for elderly, disabled, and low-income homeowners in Jefferson Parish, organizers said. Details on the volunteer effort to repair a 90-year old man’s Gretna home at the end of June will be forthcoming.
